Chris Paul is good friends with Carmelo Anthony and hopes the Houston Rockets will bring in the veteran scorer to form a new “Big Three.”

Last season was a pretty good one for the Houston Rockets. Led by their two superstars, James Harden and Chris Paul, along with a solid supporting cast featuring Clint Capela and P.J. Tucker, the Rockets won an NBA-leading 65 games.

Following that, Houston engaged the juggernaut Golden State Warriors in a vicious back-and-forth battle in the Western Conference Finals, falling in Game 7 and just missing out on a trip to the NBA Finals. If an injury hadn’t taken Paul out before the culmination of the series, it may have very well been the Rockets facing LeBron James and the Cavaliers in the Finals instead of the Warriors.

Now that the 2018 playoffs are a thing of the past, Paul is thinking ahead to next season. He just signed a brand new four-year contract with the Rockets, and now, according to Jordan Schultz of Yahoo Sports, he wants to add another star to the roster — his good friend, veteran forward Carmelo Anthony — to help push Houston over the hump that they just missed this time.

It’s an era of NBA basketball in which contending teams often build a “Big Three” to help them win titles and adding Anthony to the mix in Houston would give the Rockets just that. Anthony has been part of a Big Three before; he spent last season with the Oklahoma City Thunder, working with Russell Westbrook and Paul George.

Unfortunately for Anthony, that Big Three didn’t work out; things just didn’t really click between the three and the Thunder were eliminated in six games by the upstart Utah Jazz in the first round of the playoffs. In Houston, however, things might be different.

Anthony would be joining a team that is just on the cusp of winning an NBA championship, and although he is 34-years old, he is about as experienced as they come. He’s averaged 24.1 points over 15 NBA seasons, but winning in the postseason has been one thing Anthony has always struggled to do.

Melo could rewrite history with the Rockets, as he could be the piece they need to finally topple the Warriors and he could, at last, get the chance to win that championship ring that has eluded him for so long.
