The two-time NBA Finals MVP has to know better than to let kids on Instagram get into his head.

Kevin Durant might be one the best basketball players in the world, but he’s also really good at embarrassing himself on social media.

When he made the decision in 2016 to abandon the Oklahoma City Thunder to join the Golden State Warriors – a team that had previously won 73 games without him – he opened up the floodgates for a never-ending life of criticism. When all the flack started pouring on, Durant created at least one burner account to anonymously defend himself from all the insults – and got busted for it, forgetting to log out of his own personal account.

Now, Durant is back at it again, and this time he isn’t hiding behind burner accounts. A 17-year-old kid made an Instagram post suggesting that Durant couldn’t lead a team on his own, and Durant’s personal Instagram account commented on the post, telling him he “don’t know hoops” and that he should “go sweep ya dorm room.”

Following the initial exchange on the public post, Durant and the kid then got into a heated argument in the direct messages. Keep in mind, this isn’t one of the best players in the world discussing basketball with a well-known sports writer or sports radio host. This is a 17-year-old kid … on Instagram.

This is just a really, really, really poor look for Durant. It’s painful to watch him try and handle the criticism that has come along with his unpopular basketball decision. There’s no way he couldn’t have seen this coming when he decided to join Golden State.

Durant wonders why everybody rips on him so mercilessly, and yet all he’s doing by this is making it worse for himself.
