Social media is on fire with rumors about the New York Yankees and what sort of trade they might be poised to make. Here’s the truth about the top three rumors.

As the MLB trade deadline grows near, whispers about the New York Yankees making this or that trade start to become deafening. The trick is cutting through the noise and identifying what’s actually true.

Not every big name linked a move to the Bronx is under serious consideration.

If you’re confused, this is the piece for you. We’re going to cut through the chatter and evaluate the top three rumors cooking at the moment. We’ll start by examining a recent report connecting the Yankees with a pair of established left handers.

3. Could the Yankees and Angels make a deal?

Neither Tyler Skaggs or Andrew Heaney is the type of pitcher who’s going to allow the Yankees to close the gap on the Red Sox by himself, but each could make a dent in Boston’s lead. The real question is whether or not the Angels are ready to admit they’re out of the race in the AL West.

Given the fact that they currently sit 14.5 games behind the Astros they should be looking to move any veterans that might bring a reasonable future asset back to the West Coast. The interesting part about this rumor is that Brian Cashman may attempt to swing a deal for both of the pitchers in question.

Neither Sonny Gray or Domingo German is doing a serviceable job of filling a role in Aaron Boone’s rotation. Acquiring both Skaggs and Heaney would allow the Yankees the option to send both of their struggling starters to the bullpen. That might be an expensive transaction, but both southpaws are also young enough to stay in the team’s rotation for multiple years into the future.

Don’t look for anything to happen quickly on this front, but it’s certainly a legitimate rumor. Cashman’s relationship with Angels GM Billy Eppler will give the Yankees an early opportunity to make a move if Skaggs and Heaney hit the market.
