Jacob deGrom basically just asked the Mets for a trade

Jacob deGrom is a hot trade chip and wants some sort of clarity from the Mets on what his future holds.

As we barrel towards the trade deadline, the All-Star break is going to be immensely important. Gathered in Washington will be executives from teams, and discussions of potential trades will happen. One such deal may or may not involve New York Mets ace Jacob deGrom.

For months, deGrom has been rumored to be the next Mets pitcher to go, after Matt Harvey was traded to Cincinnati. Noah Syndergaard’s name has come up as well, but because deGrom is viewed as the ace of the staff — and potentially of the future — he’s the more intriguing trade chip.

We haven’t heard much movement on either trade talks with other teams or extension talks with deGrom’s agent. With the deadline just weeks away, deGrom’s agent thinks enough is enough, it’s time for some clarity.

Here’s the official quote from deGrom’s agent. It doesn’t specifically ask for a trade but heavily implies that such an outcome might be best for all parties involved.

It’s been no secret that deGrom has wanted an extension with the Mets for years. The snag is in the front office dragging its feet, which gives off the impression that there’s no interest in extending him.

Hence, the standoff we’re in.

Nothing is clearer than it was before, even the act of speaking out in frustration answers nothing. Does deGrom want a trade or to extend his deal in New York?

There isn’t a more attractive starting pitcher on the trade market than deGrom, and the Mets will get massive offers if they actually shop him. But since we don’t know if he’s even actually on the market or not, some clarity might be a great place to start.
