Liz Cambage went full Michael Jordan while shattering a WNBA scoring record

Dallas Wings star Liz Cambage did something that was last done on this planet by Michael Jordan, so put some respect on her name.

Liz Cambage was in no mood to mess around on Tuesday afternoon. The Dallas Wings center set a WNBA record with 53 points in a 104-87 victory over the New York Liberty. Working efficiently from the field, the 26-year-old shot 17-for-22 (73 percent). While the majority of her looks came in the paint, she did go 4-for-5 from three. The record setting shot came in the final minute of the game on a three from the top of the key. The last time someone went for 50 points, 10 rebounds and shot 75 percent was Michael Jordan.

She had made just five threes coming into the game.

She also knocked down 15 of 16 free throws. On top of her dominant scoring performance, she added 10 rebounds and five blocks. Cambage outscored the Liberty starting five, 53-43.

Riquna Williams held the previous single-game scoring record with 51 points in 2013. Cambage becomes just the second player in WNBA history to score over 50 points in a game.

Cambage’s previous career high came earlier this month when she scored 37 points against the Chicago Sky.

The 26-year-old spent the left five seasons playing in Australia after a two-year stint in the WNBA. Coming into Tuesday’s tilt, Cambage was averaging 19.9 points-per-game. The Wings have now won six of their last seven and sit fourth in the league at 13-9.

In her post-game interview, Cambage took a shot at her haters.

“I’ve had big numbers in China, I’ve had big numbers in Australia, I’ve had a lot of people say I could never have big numbers here in the WNBA,” she told FOX Sports Southwest. “I guess this game was for ya’ll.”
