Sunday at Carnoustie Golf Links is sure to bring plenty of exciting golf by itself but here are five final pairings that are sure to intrigue golf fans around the world.

Golf fans can rejoice as the playing of the 147th Open Championship is finally coming upon us. The oldest major championship formerly known as The British Open and now simply as The Open Championship is an international showcase of the game’s elite. Top players from around the world return to Carnoustie Golf Links this year in hopes of raising the famed Claret Jug on Sunday.

In the previous 146 years of competition, champions from 14 different countries have claimed victory across some of the most iconic courses in golf. The United States (44) and Scotland (41) have produced the most victories while England (22) rounds out the top three. Whether it’s Zimbabwe’s Nick Price or the oldest to ever win at 46-years old, Tom Morris Sr., The Open is rich with history.

Play begins Thursday when 156 players will look to write their own history at Carnoustie. Also lurking in the field are over a dozen returning champions each looking to etch their name in the record books once again. With so many players in the prime of the careers, the tantalizing closing Sunday match ups are practically endless.

Surging and perennial contenders, especially on the links, such as Jon Rahm and Francesco Molinari would surely put on a spectacle for the ages. Meanwhile, former major champions Jason Day and Zach Johnson will all have their sights set on a late pairing Sunday afternoon and could give the crowd a showdown unlike any other.

The possibilities may be endless but a few select pairings and rematches would surely boost ratings come Sunday.
