It was time for Keelin and Freya’s wedding on season 5 episode 10 of The Originals and Mikaelsons all in one place meant a lot of drama.

After all of the death in the last episode, Freya and Keelin decide that they should get married right away. And although their wedding day was full of drama, it will still go down as the least tragedy filled wedding on either The Originals or The Vampire Diaries.

There was a brief calling off of the whole thing. But, neither Keelin or Freya were killed by their evil brother. No minions of the Queen of Hell burning down buildings with the bride’s young twins in them. Overall, a very successful wedding simply because it happened and no one died. (The bar on The Originals really needs to be that low).

However, this was still a Mikaelson family event, so it almost turned into a complete disaster a few times.

Freya created a role in her wedding for each of her siblings. Kol officiated, Rebekah was the Maid of Honor, Klaus was in charge of compelling them a venue at the last second, and Elijah would be the one to walk Freya down the aisle. The first major roadblock to Freya getting her perfect wedding was that Elijah refused to walk his sister down the aisle.

See, he was busy going through some of his old things, remembering Hayley and feeling all of the guilt. Next problem would be Freya realizing that she never told Keelin that she never wanted to have kids. So, over course, she tells Keelin this a couple hours before their wedding, which is now no longer happening.

Thankfully, Rebekah is back in this episode of The Originals to fix this problem. A sister heart-to-heart reveals that Freya is afraid to have kids given how bad their parents were. She is worried history is doomed to repeat itself as being a Mikaelson means endless family drama. Rebekah tells Freya it is up to them to be better than their parents. So, Freya goes back to Keelin to express her fears about having kids, but that she is open to the possibility.

That is enough for the couple to go ahead with the wedding. They just love each other too much to wait and there are only a couple of episodes left in the series.

Now back to Elijah and his trip down memory lane. A letter he finds triggers a flashback to his time in France when Hayley came to see him. She introduces herself as Andrea and the pair have an instant connection. Hayley informs Elijah that she is in France trying to get over an ex (him). Seeing as Antoinette is conveniently away, they continue to hang out together at an art show.

They share a dance and talk about being destined to be with people even if it is in another life. Back in the present, Elijah reveals that he recognized Hayley as Andrea at the farmhouse the day she died. He felt that instant connection again, but figured their meeting in France was all just a ploy by the family he hated at that moment. So, he didn’t step in to save he even though he could have.

That is why he has to leave before Freya’s wedding. Even Klaus telling him that Hope is about to die is not enough to make him stay. In the end, it is Hayley through the letter she wrote thanking him for their time together in France that makes Elijah stay and walk Freya down the aisle with Klaus. Also, it seems pretty clear now that Hayley and Elijah reuniting in the afterlife is almost certainly going to be part of the series finale.

Anyway, there is one storyline this episode that is just all doom and gloom: Hope’s. She opens the episode in the cemetery grieving for the man she accidentally killed in the last episode. Yes, expelling that much magic helped for a bit, but now the darkness is back and she triggered her werewolf curse. Klaus tries to comfort his daughter, but she just wants to be left alone.

As Klaus is walking away, he notices that the black veins are spreading. He turns to Davina for help figuring out what is going on and how to stop it. After a couple spells and some burning books, Davina comes to the conclusion that Hope only has a few weeks to live because the darkness is killing her from the inside.

Rebekah is the one sent to break the horrible news to Klaus. He tries to tell his daughter the truth after the wedding, but can’t go though with it. Instead, Klaus turns to Elijah to get him through this. The episode ends with the brothers sharing a hug.
