The Los Angeles Lakers have signed Michael Beasley in the least surprising move of the offseason.

You know who a team with Rajon Rondo, Lance Stephenson, and JaVale McGee needs? 100 percent more Michael Beasley. According to ESPN’s Chris Haynes, Beasley is joining the Lakers on a one-year deal worth $3.5 million.

Don’t worry, Lakers fans. This is all part of Magic Johnson’s master plan to make you forget about Kawhi Leonard.

The 29-year-old forward averaged 13.2 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 1.7 assists in 74 games for the New York Knicks last season. Statistically, it was his best season since 2010-11 and the second best season of his career.

This move falls in line with everything the Lakers have done this offseason, outside of basing signings on playoff performance. Beasley and the Knicks failed to make the playoffs, but I’m sure if they had, Beasley would have helped lead a sweep over the Toronto Raptors. The Lakers wanted guys who will take the ball out of LeBron’s hands. You can’t say they haven’t done that.

Beasley and LeBron played together in Miami in 2013-14. It was Beasley’s worst season of his career.

I’d say Beasley will be there as a backup forward behind LeBron James and Brandon Ingram, but that might be giving the Lakers too much credit. The starting lineup will be Rondo, Lance, LeBron, Beasley, and JaVale and we’re going to see if LeBron truly can win with anyone around him.

The only thing the Lakers need now is a sixth man to come off the bench to keep the scoring role. I know a certain shooting guard currently in Cleveland with ties to LeBron who would be perfect. The catering staff would just need to make sure to keep any and all hot soup out of the building.
