Devin Mesoraco

Since joining the Mets in a deal for Matt Harvey, Devin Mesoraco has been solid. He has seven home runs in 48 games with a batting average of .227 and an OPS of .712 which is the second highest of his career.

As for Oakland, they’re currently trotting Jonathan Lucroy who has really struggled in his first year with the club. He’s hitting .243 with two home runs and a career-low OPS of .627.

Adding Mesoraco would add a little pressure to Lucroy to start performing and if he doesn’t you have a capable catcher who is solid defensively. Lucroy has a .986 fielding percentage this year while Mesoraco has a .997 since joining the Mets so Mesoraco is a clear upgrade when it comes to fielding.

He’s also UFA at the end of the year so if the Mets eat some of the remaining salary the A’s would owe a fraction of what is 2018 contract is worth anyway. Unfortunately for Oakland who is forced to budget you have to keep these things in mind.

As for cost, the A’s could likely give up one or two low-level prospects. They wouldn’t have to worry about giving up a top-prospect for simply a depth move in the short-term.
