Browns might sign Pacman Jones, which Cleveland absolutely needs

Adam “Pacman” Jones, the troubled cornerback who has spent the last eight seasons in Cincinnati, is trying out for the Cleveland Browns according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Adam “Pacman” Jones may soon have a new home for the 2018 NFL season.

The Cleveland Browns are bringing in the former Cincinnati Bengals cornerback for a tryout, according to a report by ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

The 34-year-old Jones has played the past eight seasons with the Bengals, but the team declined his option after last season. The former Pro Bowler has a troubled past that makes some teams resistant to take on the risk, but he has experience working with Browns’ head coach Hue Jackson. Jackson was part of the Bengals coaching staff from 2012 to 2015.

The move will be another significant roster change for the Browns, who are looking to rebound from a winless 2017 campaign. They already added cornerbacks E.J. Gaines and Terrance Mitchell in free agency, and drafted Denzel Ward fourth overall out of Ohio State in April.

General Manager John Dorsey says that cornerback remains the team’s top priority as they begin training camp.

“It is quite obvious. You look at the secondary. That is first and foremost,” he said at a press conference Wednesday.

“After you sit and listen to the head coach talk about what he thinks we need, and then you talk to the defensive coordinator and see what he thinks he needs at that time, it was obvious that we needed some players here and that is why we went down the path we did.”

Jones isn’t the only notorious superstar the Browns are considering adding to their roster. Dorsey also revealed the team is discussing signing free agent wide receiver Dez Bryant. The addition of Bryant will give the team another established playmaker to pair with Jarvis Landry and first overall pick Baker Mayfield.

Josh Gordon, expected to partner with Landry in the Browns receiving corps, announced Monday he is skipping training camp to deal with personal issues. Dorsey says the Browns have no timetable for Gordon to return.

Jones was the 6th overall pick by the Tennessee Titans in 2005. In 11 seasons, spent with the Titans, Cowboys and Bengals, Jones has 11 career interceptions and five punt return touchdowns. He made the Pro Bowl following the 2015 season.
