2. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

While Jameis Winston is serving a three-game suspension, Ryan Fitzpatrick is in line to start the season under center for Tampa Bay. The veteran was 2-1 as a starter last year when Winston was injured, with at least 275 passing yards in three of four games where he saw extensive action.

Winston’s future with the Buccaneers is up in the air until further notice The $20.9 million he’s due to make next year is only guaranteed for injury, and he’s in the market for a new agent as potential discussions about a contract extension loom. The prospect of a regime change in Tampa Bay, with head coach Dirk Koetter and general manager Jason Licht firmly on the hot seat, further clouds the idea of Winston as the long-term face of the franchise.,

An acquisition of Bridgewater by Tampa Bay sometime in August could have an eye toward 2019. The idea of sitting Winston all season to avoid a serious injury and a substantial financial guarantee, just like what the Redskins did with Robert Griffin III in 2015, has been put out there too. Putting a healthy and eligible Winston on ice is incredibly unlikely, as Koetter coaches for his job this year, but it can’t be ruled out.

As long as his knee cooperates, Bridgewater would probably like an opportunity to start in 2019. Tampa Bay could be the place to find it, even if he’s essentially stashed for the entire upcoming season.
