1. Milwaukee Brewers

As the Brewers try to stay with the Chicago Cubs in the NL Central, they acquired third baseman Mike Moustakas from the Kansas City Royals late last Friday night. He has a hit in each of his first games for Milwaukee, but the need for another infielder seems very clear.

To make room for Moustakas at the hot corner, the Brewers are prepared to give Travis Shaw some time at second base and he started his first major league game there on Saturday. But with a left-hander on the mound Sunday against the San Francisco Giants, and Jonathan Villar is currently on the disabled list with a thumb injury, utility man Hernan Perez got the start at second base.

As a clear testament to the situation, Moustakas has apparently thrown his hat in the ring to play second base if it comes to that.

If Shaw and Moustakas do what they can do offensively, the Brewers will tolerate a lack of defensive prowess at second base. But Dozier can do just as much with a bat in his hands, albeit amid bouts of maddening inconsistency, and he won a Gold Glove in 2017.

The Brewers have a solid history acquiring rental players for a playoff push when it’s been warranted. They’re obviously hoping Moustakas can be added to the list, and Dozier would be a nice late addition as the clock ticks toward the deadline Tuesday afternoon.
