During the 2017 NFL season, the San Francisco 49ers pulled off a trade that could turn their franchise around for the next ten seasons. The 49ers traded with the New England Patriots for backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, who would have gotten a ton of offers had he made it to free agency after the season.

Garoppolo was worked in slow in San Francisco, and did not make his first appearance in the Gold and Red until Week 12 against the Seattle Seahawks. He led the 49ers to a touchdown late in the game, and from there, it was his show the rest of the way.

Taking over with the team at 1-10, Jimmy G rolled off five straight wins to finish the season, beating three playoff teams along the way in the Tennessee Titans, Los Angeles Rams, and Jacksonville Jaguars. He proved he was well worth trading for, and the team signed him to a long-term deal after the season.

Now fully entrenched as a starting quarterback for the first time in his career, it will be up to Garoppolo to show that he belongs there. The 49ers have done a nice job this offseason bringing in some talented weapons to go around their new franchise quarterback, and some feel they will challenge for the division title in the NFC West.

The 49ers are a proud franchise, and by drafting offensive tackle Mike McGlinchey in the first round in 2018, they made a statement they are all about Jimmy G. They have the talent to make a run this season, and it will be interesting to see how long Garoppolo can keep his undefeated starts streak (7) going.
