Even though the trade deadline is over, these players could still get dealt

McCutchen’s time in San Francisco might not last even one season. After trading for the former NL MVP this offseason, the Giants could look to move McCutchen’s $14.75 million contract in order to stay under the luxury tax threshold. McCutchen is hitting just .258 this season with 11 home runs, a far cry from his MVP campaign in 2013, but he could still provide a veteran bat for a contender in August.

The New York Yankees are one team with a need for an extra outfielder after Aaron Judge suffered a broken bone in his wrist last week. The Phillies and Cleveland Indians are also reportedly in the market for another outfielder and could make a move for McCutchen if the Giants make him available.

The 35-year-old Santana has made just two starts for Minnesota this season, but posted a 3.32 ERA in the past two years. He only returned from the DL on July 25, but if he makes a few more solid starts in August the Twins could look to move him. He still has $4.5 million remaining on his deal, with a $14.5 million club option for 2019.

The Oakland Athletics, just a game behind the Seattle Mariners for the second Wild Card spot, were noticeably quiet on trade deadline day. A potential trade with Detroit for pitcher Mike Fiers fell through, and the Athletics are still in the market for a starting pitcher. That makes Santana a possible target.
