Welcome to this edition of PGA DFS Golf rankings for DRAFT.com from FantasyCPR, covering the 2018 PGA Championship. The DRAFT app can be downloaded to your mobile device through your app store, or you can access their desktop site here.

I play quite a bit on DRAFT, and have always been a big fan of the snake draft format. On DRAFT, for PGA, you simply roster five golfers. They offer head-to-head, 3-man, 6-man and 8-man drafts that start upon filling. In the DRAFT lobby, you will find me in the six-man and eight-man contests, which payout to the top two spots.

My goal here will be to give you my targets in tiers, based upon their DRAFT projections. Followed by that, will be my top 40 overall rankings. The strategy of course here, is that 40 golfers will be drafted for 8-man contests, and these rankings will have you covered. After having completed my rankings for this week, let’s quickly look at last weeks WGC Bridgestone targets, and recap my picks before we move on to the targets.

Last Week:

For the WGC Bridgestone last week in Ohio, it turned out to be a slightly profitable week on DRAFT again. I did double my play, entering a total of eight, 8-man drafts. I won two of them for a small profit, and just missed cashing in two others with two third places. While it was kind of a disappointing performance overall for my targets, my top low projected golfer Thorbjorn Olesen had a fantastic final round, vaulting up the leaderboard on Sunday to finish T-3. His was tied with my top target Dustin Johnson, and I also was able to hit one more top 10 out of my targets. Rory McIlroy was looking to be in contention going into the final round, but faltered on Sunday, posting a +3, finishing at -8, and in a tie for sixth.

My other top projected targets this week were pretty much off. Justin Rose withdrew after this article was published, so that was just the bad luck of me trying to get you content with plenty of time to hit the DRAFT lobby. It appears his back spasms should be in the rear-view mirror, as he is still listed in this weeks field. The other high projected target that disappointed was Paul Casey. He hasn’t been at his best of late, and he finished even and T-31.

Mid range targets we also a little disappointing aside from Rory of course. Both Francesco Molinari and Henrik Stenson had their struggles all four days, and never really got anything going. Both finished at +1, and T39th. I think it is safe to say Molinari’s fantastic run is over. The low projected targets were a mixed bag. This column’s favorite low projected golfer Tommy Fleetwood was on his game again, grabbing yet another top-20 with a -6 and a T14. Tiger Woods had a difficult weekend after a decent start, and Alexander Noren never got hot. Woods and Noren finished at even par, and tied for 31st.

Before we get to the targets, one last thing I will add is that this article will no longer feature any info about the course or the event itself. I am currently writing a fanduel piece as well for this week, and any info you may need on past results of note and course history will be in that piece instead.

PGA DFS Golf High Projected Targets: (Players with DRAFT Projections of 70-85)

Dustin Johnson – (82)

Without question, Johnson is the favorite to win this weekend at Bellerive. He wasn’t playing great golf at the Bridgestone in the early goings, but bounced back impressively in DJ like fashion, firing a 64 in the final round on Sunday, and moving into another top 5 with a T-3. I am only writing him up here this week again because he is a clear-cut #1 pick. I see some are tempted to take Justin Thomas and I get it, I just don’t know how you pass on the #1 player in the world, playing at a course that suits his game to a T.

Tony Finau – (71.2)

Speaking of courses that fit a player’s game, Bellerive is a place where Finau could finally capture that elusive first major championship. He seems to get his game on another level for the majors, as his results show top 10’s in all three thus far this year. There are quite a few bigger names in the field, which may cause Finau to fall a little bit. I was able to grab him late second round in one draft, and prior to that, I may have reached a bit and took him at seven overall. However, in my next draft, he was taken early in the second round to kind of split the difference I guess. His consistency and driving ability coupled with his short game should have him near the top of the leaderboard on Sunday. I think he is worth a late first round pick here.

Brooks Koepka – (71.4)

Koepka is getting quite a bit of love around the industry this week. Another guy that seems to always bring his best game to major championships, Koepka comes in on a bounce-back heater. He had a dismal +5 in the first round of the RBC Canadian Open, and ended up missing the cut. But last week, he shot three rounds under par, and rolled into a solo fifth place finish at the Bridgestone Invitational. The U.S. Open champ looks to be ready to contend for another major championship, and is worthy of a mid-to-late first round pick.

PGA DFS Golf Mid Projected Targets: (Players with DRAFT Projections of 55-70)

Rory McIlroy – (68.9)

McIlroy had his somewhat familiar off Sunday, as he faltered in the final pairing once again. Like Thomas, what I noticed from Rory in rounds 1-3 was that confidence was obvious, as he was making some difficult shots. However, what Thomas brought on Sunday was much more than Rory did, as McIlroy finished the day +3 and in a tie for sixth.

A two-time PGA Championship winner, I think McIlroy has as a solid chance at capturing a third this week. His projection is way too low again, as they really don’t seem to change a whole lot for PGA. He is my third overall ranked player, and if I draft eight times like I did last week, I hope to have him on half of my teams.

Zach Johnson – (62.1)

Johnson isn’t a bomber really to today’s standards, but he seems to get it done week in and week out with his all-around game. If I had to bet that he would win the tournament I would not, but if I could bet that he would make the cut and give us four rounds of points I would in a heartbeat. Johnson has technically missed just one cut this season at the Fort Worth Invitational, and since then has five top 20’s in his last six tournaments, including five straight. Another model of consistency here, I am happy to be landing Johnson over and over in the third round.

PGA DFS Golf Low Projected Targets: (Players with DRAFT Projections of 30-55)

Tommy Fleetwood – (42.6)

This was once the dedicated Joaquin Niemann slide, now it is the Tommy Fleetwood slide without a doubt. I am too lazy to go back and look truthfully, but I think is maybe five, and least four weeks in a row now where he has been a low projected target. All he does is finish in the top 20 though so I hope it makes sense. Fleetwood got off to an incredible start in the first two rounds at the WGC-Bridgestone, firing a 63 on Friday and putting him in contention. He cooled off in the third round ending up +4, and also finished over par on Sunday, dropping him to a T14 finish. Like Finau, this is a pick geared toward recent consistency, as Fleetwood is firing on all cylinders as of late.

Thorbjorn Olesen – (33.7)

Well here we are with the Dane again, and having written him up four times now in the last two weeks, I am running out of good things to say. If you missed it all for some reason, Olesen had a monster final round of 64 last week at the WGC-Bridgestone to move him into a T-3. It was a pretty bold pick, but I wasn’t really alone on it. I think he may have a tougher time here as this course will be a bit more challenging, but Firestone was no walk in the park either. I have grabbed him in the fourth round of every draft I have done to this point, and I will continue to do so.
