Fantasy- 32 Teams in 32 Days: The Chicago Bears
By Matt Mikolas
Fantasy Football Off-Season Overview – Chicago Bears
The Chicago Bears are a hard team for me to figure. Probably because I don’t like the quarterback.
It’s a team that should look to me like one that’s poised for a breakout.
Brand new head coach Matt Nagy brings a new, potentially explosive system over from Kansas City. The Bears acquired some big playmakers in Allen Robinson and Trey Burton, and they return Jordan Howard and quick RB Tarik Cohen.
So why am I struggling to see these guys as real, legit fantasy prospects?
I don’t think Mitchell Trubisky has got it.
And it’s not like I can even point to stats to prove my feeling on that. 7 TD, 7 INT in his first season, 2,200 yards… in 12 starts of a rookie season, that’s fine I guess. But when I watch Trubisky, I don’t see budding star. I don’t see future franchise quarterback. Maybe I’m wrong; wouldn’t be the first time, won’t be the last. But I am having real trouble taking this offense seriously with the quarterback situation as it is.

It is worth saying that the team did add Trey Burton at tight end from the Eagles. While I just spent the last 200 words trashing the Bears’ passing offense, even struggling quarterbacks can find security in a good tight end. Burton should be a good one.
I Gotta Get Me One of Those!
For a period of time, the Bears seemed to always have a brand new flavor of the week (year) at running back, only to cede that spot to a new guy the next year. Jordan Howard seems to be the end of that cycle.
His first full season, 2017 saw 9 touchdowns, and after two seasons over 1,000 yards, he should be the most consistent fantasy point producer for the Bears.
Buyer Beware
Have I mentioned I don’t really like Mitchell Trubisky so much? Obviously, I’m not going to recommend taking him. But look at the deeper impact, and that’s going to mean not taking Allen Robinson either. For where he’ll be drafted, I don’t think he’s going to be worth it.
Yes, I know Robinson came from putting up good numbers in Jacksonville with a questionable Blake Bortles at QB. Maybe he gets garbage time stats like he did there, and it benefits him. But it’s a big question mark to me, and a risk I wouldn’t want to take in the 4th round, which is where he’ll probably go.
Stay Woke
The only element of the passing game I really like is Tarik Cohen. He burst on the scene last year with a couple of really productive games. A poor quarterback’s best friends are a receiving back or a great tight end.
Cohen will benefit from two coaches in Nagy and Mark Helfrich (formerly of the University of Oregon) who really know how to get the ball in the hands of the running back in the passing game. Howard only had 29 receptions last year. Especially in PPR, Cohen should show real nice value.
