The Carolina Hurricanes are holding a vote for their new goal song, and only one track makes sense as the winner.

New Carolina Hurricanes owner Thomas Dundon promised changes. He wasn’t lying. Forget about the changes made in the front office or behind the bench. Forget the players being traded. The most important change made by the Hurricanes this season will be in the arena. Specifically, the song that plays in the arena after the Hurricanes score a goal.

The Hurricanes already have one of the best Jumbotron goal celebrations in the sport.

Why yes, that is Ric Flair letting out his trademark “Wooo!” to inform fans of a Hurricanes goal. But Dundon and company felt the team needed more.  So they set out on a journey to find the perfect goal song to follow The Nature Boy.

According to the Canes website, fans submitted 1,500 potential goal songs. They narrowed down the list to eight, which fans can vote on. Here are the seven losing songs:

*”Brass Bonanza” (techno remix)

*”Jump Around” by House of Pain

*”Lithium” by Nirvana

*”Party Up” by DMX

*”Rock and Roll” by Led Zeppelin

*”The Nights” by Avicii

*”Uprising” by Muse

All good songs in their own right. But the official goal song of the Carolina Hurricanes? Nope. Sorry. There is only one winner in this race.

Look, this shouldn’t even be a poll. The Hurricanes may want this to be a democracy, but sometimes you have to throw that out the window and just make the correct choice yourself. Leaving the power in the hands of the people can backfire.

I shouldn’t have to campaign for “Raise Up” by Petey Pablo. But I will.

If you’re a Hurricanes fan living in North Carolina, you know the right choice. “Raise Up” should not only be the Canes goal song, it should be the state anthem. Play this before every single sporting event held in North Carolina. I guarantee no one will be seated.

Maybe you’re not a Hurricanes fan. You’re still a hockey fan, right? I’ll just assume you are because you’ve clicked this article. As a hockey fan, don’t you want other hockey fans, especially fans of mediocre teams, to have a good time? We’re all in this together. We all pay for overpriced beer and hot dogs. We should have the right to enjoy ourselves when the home team scores. Nobody has ever had a good time listening to techno music unless it’s 3 a.m. and glow sticks are involved. And who wants to listen to Led Zeppelin’s 12th best song?

Forever a Blackhawk: Stan Mikita’s legacy in Chicago. dark. Next

Canes fans — if you don’t want the team taken from you in three years, you have to vote for “Raise Up.” If the literal anthem of North Carolina can’t win this vote, why should Dundon keep the team in the state? This isn’t just voting for a song that will be played 112 times a season. This is voting for the future of the franchise. If Nirvana wins, you’re practically begging Gary Bettman to move the team to Seattle.

Ask not what your favorite hockey team can do for you. Ask….Who am I? Petey Pab’ mother….
