The Miami Dolphins and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will battle in each team’s preseason opener this Thursday at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami.

Both the Dolphins and Buccaneers come into their preseason opener eager to get the sour taste of last year out of their mouths. The Dolphins finished with a 6-10 record in the AFC East as they watched both the New England Patriots and Buffalo Bills carry on to the postseason.

The Buccaneers, who were projected to be a top contender in the NFC South behind second-year head coach Dirk Koetter, finished in dead last at 5-11.

A few guys to keep an eye out for include Dolphins rookie tight end Mike Gesicki who at 6-foot-6 and 245 pounds will provide a big athletic target for quarterback Ryan Tannehill.  Keep track of the third-year speedy receiver Jakeem Grant. Grant can be a very dynamic playmaker with his lightning quick cuts and 4.3 track speed. With Jarvis Landry gone, look for Grant to take advantage of whatever comes his way.

For the Buccaneers, first-round pick Vita Vea will most likely not be seen in action due to a calf injury he suffered about a week ago. Ronald Jones, however, is a rookie to be aware of as the first-year running back is trying to earn a possible starting job as the departure of Doug Martin leaves the position up for grabs. Rookie corners M.J Stewart and Carlton Davis have been impressive in camp so far and need to be on your radar.

This is the preseason opener, so fans definitely want to get a look at how the teams are shaping up during training camp. As with all preseason games expect to only see the starters out there for a couple series as the backups will be battling for roster spots and a chance at making the team.
