Fantasy Football: Ranking the top 25 quarterbacks
By Jon Dove
The quarterback position has a weird place in Fantasy Football which creates some volatility in the draft range of this group.
Maybe one of the biggest factors that plays into the fantasy football quarterback flux is the different league types. There are so many different ways to customize your league and each decision you make impacts how you would rank each quarterback.
Those who operate a league with two starting quarterbacks typically put a ton of value on the position. There are leagues that only give a quarterback four points for a touchdown which would drop the value.
My rankings in this article are based on the more traditional scoring system with the quarterback getting six points per touchdown. The quarterback also gets rewarded for rushing touchdowns and yards.
This year’s quarterback situation is a little more unique than in the past. There are several quarterbacks returning from significant injuries which cloud their value.
Carson Wentz and Deshaun Watson are coming back from knee injuries suffered later in the season. It appears that both are operating at full strength during training camp, but it will take some time for them to get back in rhythm.
Andrew Luck’s situation is even more uncertain as he works back into action from a shoulder problem.
Then there’s the new faces in places. Kirk Cousins, Case Keenum, Tyrod Taylor and Alex Smith are all learning a new system and getting acclimated to their new surroundings. This could result in a slow start.
Patrick Mahomes is one of the higher risk and higher reward options. He has a huge arm and doesn’t hesitate taking shots down the field. However, Mahomes is also very raw and could be turnover prone.
