Brook Lopez, who signed with the Bucks in the offseason, believes his new team can win the Eastern Conference next season.

Brook Lopez signed with the Milwaukee Bucks with the belief that the team can truly come into its own next season.

He very well could be correct.

Now that LeBron James has taken his talents to Southern California, every team that James has perplexed during his reign of terror in the East, now believes that they have a shot to become the new kings of the conference.

The Bucks, who have spent the past two seasons working their way up the Eastern Conference’s food chain, is one of those teams, and Lopez believes, wholeheartedly, that his new team has what it takes to not only just have homecourt advantage, but to be the representatives of the East in the NBA Finals.

When Hoopshype’s Alex Kennedy asked Lopez recently if he believed his new squad could run the East, he didn’t hesitate:

“Absolutely, we feel like that,” he said. “We definitely think the East is wide open.”

Indeed, the East will be wide open next season.

The Boston Celtics, who took LeBron’s Cleveland Cavaliers to seven games in last year’s Eastern Conference battle royale, will be the favorites to take the throne. But don’t count out the Toronto Raptors and, yes, those Bucks, both of whom have plenty of talent to give the Celtics a run for their money.

Milwaukee has their own superstar in Giannis Antetokounmpo, a top-flight point guard in Eric Bledsoe, and a deadly sharpshooter in the emerging Khris Middleton. Add in Lopez, who gives the Bucks a strong inside presence that can also stretch the floor, and one can’t help but feel confident that these young Bucks can be the dark horses in a conference that will anybody’s for the taking in 2018-19.
