Rockets coach Mike D’Antoni believes that Carmelo Anthony will be a much better fit within his system than he was in Oklahoma City.

Houston Rockets head coach Mike D’Antoni really believes in his heart that Carmelo Anthony is the missing piece to Houston’s championship puzzle.

For the sake of his job, he better be right.

Today, Anthony finally did what the entire NBA universe was waiting, which was putting his signature on the dotted line of a one-year contract with the Rockets. This was a nice coup for Houston, who really needed another scorer to lessen the load of James Harden, Chris Paul and Eric Gordon.

The one glaring question was whether or not Anthony would be a good fit within D’Antoni’s high-scoring offense, and the coach wasted little time tempering those flames.

In an interview with USA Today, D’Antonio said that not only will Anthony fit his system, he would be an even better fit in the Bayou City than he was with the Oklahoma City Thunder.

“We’ve got a team that is a whole bunch of veterans that really, we’ve got one thing in mind, and that’s to win a championship,” he said. “I think it’s a lot better fit and I think we have a really good chance to be really good.”

That’s a huge statement from D’Antoni, especially giving how things turned out the last time these two were paired together.

Next. Randle will fit nicely next to Anthony Davis. dark

The last time these two were on the same team, they butted heads over D’Antoni’s style of play with the New York Knicks. Now, it seems, Anthony has had a change of heart about playing in D’Antoni’s system, which focuses on a high-scoring attack, something that OKC wanted to run but couldn’t due to Carmelo’s skill set.

Can it really work in Houston? That still remains to be seen.
