MLB DFS Picks – Standouts: August 14th

Tonight’s MLB DFS Picks slate features 14 games with, Arizona (5.8), Cleveland (5.2), Atlanta (5), Baltimore (4.9), and Toronto (4.9), holding the best projected team totals. With high-priced pitchers like, Justin Verlander, Patrick Corbin, and Corey Kluber available, finding value will be critical for success tonight. We’ll be aiming to highlight MLB DFS picks from the perspective of batted ball data, batter splits, line movement, and stolen base upside.

MLB DFS Picks: Batted Ball Stats

Chris Davis – DK $3100, FD $2100

While Chris Davis is having a season to forget, he may be an interesting option on DraftKings tonight. Baltimore has one of the higher team totals, and Davis only costs $3100. All of Davis’ batted ball stats have been up of late, indicating this may be a good time to “buy low”. In the last 15 days, his batted ball distance is up 16 feet, his exit velocity is up 2 MPH, and his hard hit percentage is up 24%, over his yearly average. These are some pretty drastic numbers, and could be a sign of improvement to come.

Batter Splits

Jeff McNeil – DK $3800, FD $2800

Jeff McNeil will draw an advantageous matchup tonight as he faces the righty, Andrew Cashner. McNeil is much better against right-handed pitching, with a .353 wOBA split (.091 better than when facing a lefty) and a .160 ISO split (.160 better than when facing a lefty). He is a much better play on FanDuel, where he only costs $2800.

Eduardo Escobar – DK $4900, FD $4000

Eduardo Escobar is another batter that will benefit from facing a righty. Escobar, a switch hitter, is much better against right-handed pitching. He holds a .379 wOBA split (.075 better than when facing a lefty) and a .304 ISO split (.201 better than when facing a lefty).

Line Movement

Justin Verlander – DK $12600, FD $11200

Houston will host the visiting Colorado Rockies tonight, in a game in which Houston opened as -194 favorites. Since opening the line has moved slightly towards the Astros, and now sits at -207. In addition to the movement on the side, the total has also changed. The game total opened at 7.5 runs, but has since dropped a half of a run, to 7. Although Justin Verlander was roughed up in his last start, this movement could be a positive indicator for tonight. Verlander is a much better play on FanDuel, at $11200 and as always, he’ll have strikeout upside, with a K/9 of 11.737.

Stolen Base Upside

Miami Runners

Tonight’s slate offers a few intriguing matchups on the base paths, one being the Miami Marlins runners vs. Anibal Sanchez. Sanchez has been susceptible to stolen bases, as he’s allowed 10 stolen bases over the course of 86 innings pitched this year. This should benefit recent call up, Rafael Ortega. Ortega has already stolen two bases since being called up, and could offer value if he’s leading off again.

Baltimore Runners

If Baltimore is looking to be aggressive on the base paths, tonight is the night to do so. They will face Jason Vargas, who has surrendered 8 stolen bases over the course of 47.1 innings pitched this year. This should be a boost to base runners like, Jonathan Villar, who has stolen 15 bases this year.
