Browns should sign Dez Bryant immediately

The Cleveland Browns shouldn’t wait any longer to ink Pro Bowl receiver Dez Bryant to a contract.

Wide receiver Dez Bryant met with the Cleveland Browns on Thursday, as expected. He was spotted at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport signing autographs. This is probably the most thrilling visit to the city of Cleveland by a professional athlete since LeBron James made his long-awaited return to the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2014.

With that being said, the Browns shouldn’t wait any longer to strike up a deal with Bryant, a three-time Pro Bowler. After a nightmarish 0-16 season last year, bringing Bryant to Cleveland would make a huge splash not just in the Browns organization, but in the entire NFL.

The Browns have already made one splash this offseason, drafting the energetic Baker Mayfield from Oklahoma with the No. 1 overall pick to secure their franchise quarterback of the future. In the meantime, however, Cleveland’s starting QB will be Tyrod Taylor – acquired via trade – and considering the receiving core is lacking some depth right now, Bryant would be a great piece to help beef it up a little bit.

The Browns did acquire Jarvis Landry from Miami, and he will likely be Taylor’s top target. But Bryant would fill in some major gaps, especially since they traded Corey Coleman, they can’t really count on rookie Antonio Callaway, and superstar receiver Josh Gordon continues to be missing in action … as he has been for about three years now.

Bryant will be turning 30 years old in November and is still in his prime. He was released by the Dallas Cowboys after eight seasons during which he went to three Pro Bowls, was named First Team All-Pro in 2014, and led the league in touchdowns receptions that very same year.

It’s not often that the Browns find themselves in a position to land such an impact player, and now is the time jump on the opportunity considering they have nowhere to go but up. General manager John Dorsey should get this deal done as soon as possible.
