Brandt Snedeker follows up his historic 59 with a three-under 67 on Friday and leads the Wyndham Championship by two shots after the second round.

Most days on the PGA Tour, if a player shoots eight shots higher than their previous round, it’s considered a bad round.

Today was not one of those days. At least not for Brandt Snedeker.

Snedeker, a day after shooting only the 10th round of 59 or better in PGA Tour history, shot a 67 on Friday in the second round of the Wyndham Championship. At 14-under after 36 holes, he will take a two-shot lead over D.A. Points into the weekend.

Snedeker got off to a rough start Friday at Sedgefield Country Club. He made three bogeys on the front nine and was one-over on the round making the turn. He was able to regroup on the back-nine, including making a 30-foot eagle putt at the par-five 15th. On the 16th he holed a 33-footer for birdie and finished the round three-under.

It was a solid round, but nowhere near Snedeker’s first. He admitted he tried not to think about his 59 from the previous day, but found it difficult to put it out of his mind at the beginning.

“You hear people telling you every two seconds, ‘Mr. 59,’ or saying how cool it was to watch it,” he said after Friday’s second round. “So, yes, totally on your mind.

“You can’t ignore it, you can’t try to forget about it. Hardest thing is trying to get back into a rhythm.”

That Snedeker feels comfortable at the Wyndham Championship is part of the reason he is finding success this week. His first PGA Tour title came here in 2007. But Snedeker has struggled in 2018, with just three top 10s in 22 starts. He has not won on tour in more than two years. Coming into the week the 2012 FedEx Cup champion stood just 80th in this year’s standings. The Wyndham is the last tournament players have to qualify for the playoffs.

Snedeker’s struggles this year are nothing compared to that of Points, however. The 41-year-old veteran has missed 16 of his last 17 cuts on tour, but shot a six-under 64 for the second straight day on Friday to get within two of Snedeker at 12-under. C.T. Pan matched Points’ 64 and is three shots back in third place.

Snedeker took one positive from his round on Friday. If he ever shoots 59 again, he says, he will know how to deal with it. “Now I’m better equipped for the next time I shoot 59 and play the next day,” he joked after the round.

He and Points tee off at 2:00 p.m. ET on Saturday.
