Miami heads to Carolina in Week 2 of the preseason. This should be a matchup where both teams learn a lot about who will start for them Week 1.

Week 2 is generally the first real opportunity for fans to see what their teams have on both sides of the ball. In other words, expect both Ryan Tannehill and Cam Newton to play multiple series against one another on Friday night. The two quarterbacks will garner a lot of attention, but they aren’t the players under real pressure.

If you want to see actual drama then make sure you’re tuning in for the second and third quarters. That’s where you will see guys trying to make the team earn their roster spots. For Carolina, pay close attention to the battle for the backup quarterback spot behind Cam Newton. Garrett Gilbert and Taylor Heinecke are running neck and neck at the moment. The one who plays the best during the preseason will likely emerge as an active part of the Panthers’ roster every week.

Dolphins fans will want to see how their revamped defense looks against the Panthers’ potentially explosive offense. First round pick Minkah Fitzpatrick is still trying to lock down his spot with the starters. Look for him to try to make big plays on Friday night.

What you shouldn’t expect to see in this game is either coach show much of their respective playbooks. Concepts will be kept pretty simple in this one. That helps players for each squad play fast, and it prevents future opponents from really learning much about each team’s tactics.
