Here’s what Josh Gordon’s return to the Browns could mean for the offense

Josh Gordon is finally back with the Browns, but what kind of impact will he make in 2018?

Cleveland Browns fans finally got some news they’ve been waiting to hear for… well… a couple years.

Josh Gordon is finally back. And hopefully this time, he’s here to stay.

When 100 percent, Gordon is one of the league’s top tier wide receivers. In 2013, he was named to the Pro Bowl, First Team All-Pro, and led the NFL in receiving yards. Then he found himself getting caught up in all kinds of substance abuse issues and played very little over the next four seasons.

Gordon is now 27 years old, and if he can stay healthy, and stay out of trouble, he could finally become a huge asset for an offense that has already made big improvements since last year.

The preseason is nearly halfway over, but considering the issues Gordon has had over the years, as well as with the amount of time he’s spent away from the game, the Browns have no intent of rushing him back into the thick of things. General manager John Dorsey released a statement announcing the team’s intentions with Gordon.

“First off, we are pleased for Josh,” Dorsey said according to NFL.com. “His overall health and well-being is what is most important. We commend Josh for his hard work, commitment and focus on becoming the best version of himself. We are glad Josh has reached a point where he can return to our organization, be in our building and be around his teammates. As he assimilates back to our team, Josh will initially participate in meetings and conditioning and will gradually resume all football activities as deemed appropriate.”

It’s a smart move by the Browns to be cautious with Gordon, and in the meantime, fans shouldn’t hold their breaths. But if everything works out, putting Gordon on the field alongside Jarvis Landry – and possibly Dez Bryant if the Browns can get a deal done – quarterback Tyrod Taylor will have a nice handful of weapons to throw to.

The new and improved Cleveland offense has potential to be quite explosive in 2018.
