One lane or two? More than anything else, that might be the biggest question facing the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series drivers and teams as they prepare for the Bass Pro Shops NRA Night Race under the lights at Bristol Motor Speedway.
Friday’s XFINITY Series race saw the high lane become the preferred racing groove, but it was possible to run all over the track when necessary. That led to some exciting racing, but rain in the forecast has made that more of a question mark for Saturday. If the rubber is all washed off, there might not be enough PJ1 in the world to avoid Bristol becoming a one-lane track.
That could turn out to be not the most horrible thing in the world for fans since it would mean using the bumper to get where you’re going. However, NASCAR is also worried about even being able to run the race at all thanks to a forecast with the possibility of thunderstorms all day, leading to a new, earlier start time.
