Power ranking all 32 NFL starting quarterbacks
30. Mitchell Trubisky, Chicago Bears
The Bears have a sincere hope that Trubisky will develop into their franchise quarterback. The chances of that actually occurring seem to be declining by the day.
The best part of Trubisky’s game is that he can really move inside and outside the pocket. In theory, that should give him the ability to make big plays on the edge with his feet and his arm. Unfortunately, that hasn’t come to pass in reality.
Playing in John Fox’s antiquated offense wasn’t a great environment last year from Trubisky, but he did get 12 starts during the 2017 campaign. His inaccuracy was a major problem for the Bears offense. He completed less than 60% of his passes and threw as many interceptions (7) as he did touchdowns.
To put it mildly, this is a make or break season for the Chicago signal caller. He either needs to ascend to become a quality NFL starter or the Bears need to start seriously considering other options. Hiring a creative offensive mind like Matt Nagy was a step in the right direction. Adding more weapons for him to throw to should eliminate all possible excuses for Trubisky. He’s got enough talent to exceed this ranking, but there’s enough downside for him to get benched before the season ends as well.
