Fantasy Football Off-Season Overview – Washington Redskins

Washington is a team that’s really made a lot of changes this off-season. Starting before Super Bowl LII, when the Washington Redskins traded for Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith. Last year’s third-best fantasy quarterback, Smith takes his highly efficient, not flashy style to Washington to turn a new crop of speedsters into a formidable group of weapons.

Smith will have incumbents Josh Doctson and Jamison Crowder in his receiving corps, and adds Seattle’s Paul Richardson to round out the group. Add to that Chris Thompson‘s pass catching abilities out of the backfield, assuming he’s recovered from his broken tibula, and Smith can replicate the formula that worked so well for him in Kansas City: Put the ball in the hands of speedy playmakers, and let them RUN!

Bad news for the Redskins, as rookie RB Derrius Guice is out for the year with an ACL tear. Adrian Peterson comes in looking to contribute, and could find himself ahead of Rob Kelley and Samaje Perine on the depth chart before long.

I Gotta Get Me One of Those!

The best and easiest name to throw out there is Jordan Reed. He has the highest fantasy ceiling of any player on the team. Fantasy owners that have looked for him to repeat his 2015 eleven touchdown performance have been disappointed by his injury history the last two years.

I’m not going to call him my sleeper, but if you feel like taking the chance, you can get paid off by taking Reed later on in the draft due to his diminished value from his injuries.

Buyer Beware

If Reed has shown anything the last couple of years, he’s shown he can’t be trusted. That 2015 season ability can be fool’s gold. Look up his ADP at draft time, and put him down at least two rounds below THAT before considering drafting him.

Stay Woke

Hard to call one of the greatest running backs of all time a sleeper. But that’s exactly what Adrian Peterson is.

Brought in just this last week to aid an ailing backfield for the Redskins, Peterson has a big opportunity to take some carries, if he comes in game-ready. The 33-year-old has spent the last few years defying nature. ACL recovery, production after 30, etc.

Peterson will likely be the forgotten man when you draft. But he’ll be worth remembering for YOU!
