The Detroit Lions visit the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to play their third preseason game, with two NFC teams looking to sharpen their skills.

The third week of the preseason doesn’t mean a whole heck of a lot, despite what some of the pundits will say. So why watch? Because it means a heck of a lot more than the first two weeks, and the action we’ll see next week, combined.

The Detroit Lions haven’t won a playoff game since 1991, and most believe that streak will extend another year. Detroit has some talent including an incredibly underrated quarterback in Matthew Stafford, but the NFC North is tough an the conference is loaded.

Meanwhile, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are also gunning for their first playoff win in quite some time, not having tasted sweet victory beyond the regular season since beating the Oakland Raiders in Super Bowl XXXVII. The Buccaneers doing so would be more surprising than Detroit, though, with Jameis Winston already suspended for the first three games of the year.

On Friday, look for both squads to play their starters into the third quarter before getting a longer look at some of the depth. Detroit and Tampa Bay both have reason to want to see their starters get extended action, with the Lions having a new coaching staff and the Buccaneers needing to find an identity.
