The University of South Carolina had to replace the sod at Williams-Brice Stadium after the Jay-Z and Beyonce show.

Jay-Z and Beyonce came to Brice-Williams Stadium in Columbia, South Carolina and had the place lit.

It was so lit, that the University of South Carolina, who owns the stadium, has to completely replace the field because it was left in tatters. That must have been one incredible concert.

According to ESPN, the field staff at South Carolina deemed that the playing field usually reserved for Gamecock games was not exactly a playable surface. In fact, the crew had to replace more than 90,000 square feet of Bermuda grass, which should raise the university’s water bill substantially.

According to Clark Cox, the man in charge of making sure the grass at Brice-Williams Stadium is in prime playing shape, the replacement had to be done to make sure the safety of the players on the field.

"“We would not have done this if we believed there was a safety issue.”"

Now, this didn’t happen out of the blue, per se. Officials at South Carolina had always known that the field would have to be replaced after the show. Really, it would have been an amazing feat if the field would have been able to withstand over 40,000 people dancing and doing whatever on the field during the concert.

In fact, the groundskeepers did try their best to protect the grass by putting a hard cover over the playing field. But, when they lifted the cover the day after the concert, the grass had gone into grass heaven.

The new sod had to be trucked in from Georgia, and it cost nearly $200,000 to replace it, money that, will be shouldered by the concert promoters. So this isn’t uncommon at other venues and it didn’t cost the school anything to repair the damage, so all in all, this just adds to the wow factor of Bey and Jay.
