Is all of the sacking speculation going to Jose Mourinho’s head?

Jose Mourinho has never been the most level-headed manager on the planet. He’s never been afraid to call out the media, either. If there’s one thing that’s stayed consistent throughout his career, it’s his honesty in press conferences. After Manchester United was embarrassed at Old Trafford by Tottenham on Monday, the Portuguese manager didn’t hold back.

While he’s been criticized for months, Mourinho has kept a rather level-head for his standards. If one were to ignore the newspapers, it’d seem everything is business as usual at United — other than missing out on a few transfer targets. He’s denied rumors of fallouts with star players, reaffirmed his desire to win, etc. However, Monday was different. Monday saw Mourinho finally snap, possibly as a result of months of intense media fire.

Rather than continuing to talk about the poor performance of his squad on the day, Mourinho took a different approach. He counted the result of the match on his fingers, a game that ended 3-0 to Spurs, and intertwined it with a bit of personal history. Mourinho reminded everybody in the room that he has three Premier League titles before demanding respect from the media and abruptly ending his press conference. In addition, he pointed out his three titles are more than all 19 other managers combined (two), a line which has likely been replaying in his head for years as he waited for Arsene Wenger’s retirement.

Throughout his time at Porto, Chelsea, Inter, Real Madrid and United, the 55-year-old has had his fair share of memorable rants. So much so, it seems with each destination comes a new notable tirade. If there’s one thing that’s fairly certain about Mourinho’s career at this point, it’s that he may have just gone on his most memorable tirade of his short-lived United career. The third-year curse of Mourinho is real, it’s alive, and tensions are at an all-time high around the United clubhouse. The Special One may not be so special anymore.
