24. Johannes Voigtmann, C, Baskonia

Nationality/College: German

2017-18 stats: 7.8 points, 4.8 rebounds, 1.6 assists per game (Baskonia)

Career synopsis: Voigtmann originally played for Fraport Skyliners in the German league before transferring to Baskonia two years ago. Since then he has been Baskonia’s go-to at the starting five spot, helping them make consecutive Euroleague playoff runs.

Representative Highlight Play:

What’s his skill set?: Voigtmann may be the most skilled offensive center in Europe. He isn’t great at traditional center skills — he’s an average rebounder, doesn’t contest many shots, and struggles at times finishing inside – but he’s a gifted passing center who has a great handle, can create his own shot, and hit 44.7 percent from 3 last season.

What makes him special?: Baskonia’s center combination is so lethal because Vincent Poirier handles the traditional tasks, and allows Voigtmann to maximize his unique set of skills. He’s a small forward in a center’s body — a perimeter-oriented player who can initiate offense and has one of the league’s best face-up games. When you watch him play, you don’t see the big, brutish, traditional European five that Gudaitis is — instead, you see a player who looks closer to a modern NBA five. Baskonia should be better this year with a full offseason under coach Pedro Martinez, and that should mean Voigtmann has a big year that can get him a shot at the NBA.
