The Boston Red Sox can’t afford to lose any more members of their pitching staff. Fortunately, it doesn’t look like David Price will miss much time.

Even though they’ve hit the final stretch of the regular season with the best record in baseball, the Boston Red Sox certainly can’t afford to have their No. 2 starter, David Price, miss an extended period of time due to injury — especially since their ace, Chris Sale, has already spent the better part of August on the disabled list.

There was some concern that it might happen on Wednesday, though, as Price was removed from his start against the Miami Marlins after getting drilled on the wrist by a line drive. Price left the game after throwing just three innings and giving up three runs on five hits.

It wasn’t his best outing in recent weeks, but other than that start against Miami, Price has been the most effective pitcher in the Red Sox rotation. Heading into Wednesday’s game, Price was 5-0 with an ERA of 1.50 in his previous seven starts.

Considering the injury troubles the Red Sox have had with their starting rotation this season, it would be a huge blow to lose Price as well, especially since he’s performing at such a high level right now. Fortunately, it doesn’t appear that he’s going to miss much time. NESN’s Guerin Austin reported that manager Alex Cora said Price will remain with the team, even though his wrist is still sore.

The Red Sox are in the midst of a four-game set with the Chicago White Sox, and then they travel to Atlanta for a three-game series with the Braves. Price will miss his next start, which was scheduled to be on Monday in Atlanta, but it won’t be catastrophic for Boston if that is the only start he misses.

When Price initially left Wednesday’s game, it looked like the Red Sox could be taking yet another massive hit to their pitching staff. But this was the good news they had been hoping for, and if they’re lucky, Price won’t be gone too long.
