The Washington Huskies and Auburn Tigers will square off in a top-10 matchup at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 1 to open the 2018 season.

The Auburn Tigers were exceptionally close to finding their way into the College Football Playoff one year ago. They did everything they had to late in the year, including knocking off Georgia and then Alabama in the Iron Bowl. However, a loss in the SEC Championship ruined their chances. Now they have a chance to start proving themselves again on Saturday, Sept. 1 as they match up with the Washington Huskies.

Gus Malzahn’s Auburn team is loaded on both sides of the ball. While there are skill position players to speak of, the leader on offense is clearly quarterback Jarrett Stidham. The Baylor transfer showed real promise last season as he picked up a new system, and now there are high expectations that he’ll put everything together.

As for the Auburn defense, they’re led by a group of star-studded players. Those guys include Derrick Brown up front and Deshaun Davis at linebacker. What’s clear is that the Tigers defense is going to win them a lot of football games in 2018.

Meanwhile, Washington is certainly no slouch on either side of the ball either. They return their core on offense behind the line with quarterback Jake Browning and running back Myles Gaskin back for another round. With big Trey Adams helping to block up front, you have to have confidence in their ability. Then, with a Washington defense anchored by JoJo White, there’s a clear reason this team is ranked sixth in the country.
