Parma vs. Juventus live stream: Watch Serie A online
Parma host Juventus on Saturday, Sept. 1 at Ennio Tardini Stadium. Here’s what you need to know before you watch.
The Serie A season continues this weekend as first-place Juventus travel to Parma in a game where Cristiano Ronaldo is still searching for his first league goal.
The Portuguese star has quickly learned that defending in Italy’s top flight is some of the toughest anywhere. While Ronaldo piled on the goals in La Liga for Real Madrid in recent seasons, he remains in a scoring drought after two matchdays.
“We’ve signed Cristiano, and I have to say that he is such a strong player, we are all very happy to have him with us,” Juventus midfielder Miralem Pjanic told Juventus TV earlier this week. “He is a footballer who has proved to be the best in the world and we can only benefit from playing with him. We hope he’s enjoying life here, but talking to him made us all understand that we are very happy here.”
Ronaldo’s chance to get on the scoresheet could come Saturday at Parma, who returned to Serie A after three years. In that time, the club was relegated to Serie D, the country’s amateur tier, after declaring bankruptcy. The club, after three consecutive promotions, are expecting a capacity crowd of 22,000 fans for the match against Juve. Seats in the North End section of the stadium that usually sell for €25 were being sold for as much as €178.
After two matchdays, Juventus, winners of the last seven league titles, are currently in first place this season (tied with Napoli and surprise side Spal) at six points after last weekend’s 2-0 win at home against Lazio. Parma are in 12th place with just one point, losing to Spal last weekend.
While Juventus have played well over the past two weeks, all eyes remain on Ronaldo after his move to Turin this summer. Although five-time Ballon d’Or winner has been criticized in some quarters for not scoring, Juve fans and observers aren’t all upset.
“Just because he didn’t score in his first two games, it doesn’t mean anything. It’s just one of those things. He’ll score tons of goals before the end of the season. He has everything, explosive power, pace and technique,” former Juve and Italy midfielder Mauro Camoranesi told Italian sports daily Tuttosport. “Many teams in Italy defend with many players in their own half. This limits the space he has, so an understanding with his teammates is needed to find it, as well as his great power.”
Parma, meanwhile, are long remembered for their success during the 1990s when players like Gianfranco Zola, Hristo Stoichkov and Hernan Crespo donned the yellow-and-blue shirt. In those years, the club captured several trophies, including the UEFA Cup and Cup Winners’ Cup, and took on title contenders like Juventus.
