DraftKings NFL: Week 1 GPP Sleeper Picks – Mains Mavericks
Mains Mavericks – Week 1 DraftKings NFL GPP Picks
Main’s Mavericks is providing weekly Draftkings NFL GPP contest advice by searching out low-salary, boom-or-bust plays destined to outperform value. As a general rule for this article, I target players below $5,000. My goal is to pick value plays who I believe can exceed 4-5 times their value (EX: $5,000 player x 4 = 20DK Pts). I will be using all of my picks in Week 1 DraftKings NFL GPP tournaments as boom-or-bust punt options. Saving on these volatile players will allow you to pay-up for superstars when building that Week 1 DraftKings NFL $1,000,000 lineup.
Here, you will typically see highlights from last weeks article and praise of low-salary NFLers who ended up in the winning GPP lineups. But, since this is week 1, we will jump right into the picks.
Week 1 DraftKings NFL GPP Sleeper Picks
QB:
Ryan Fitzpatrick 5,000 @ NO (31st Priced QB)
Fitz gets the ball in a garbage time shootout thanks to a Jameis Winston crotch grab. I’ll side with the veteran here in an explosive offense. Fitz played about half of last years matchup at New Orleans and finished with a stat line of 8/15 for 68 yards, 1 touchdown, and 30 rushing yards. Fitzpatrick started 3 games last year and finished with over 10 DK points in each start.
RB:
Devontae Booker 4,600 vs SEA (51st Priced RB)
Booker is the lead back for Denver, and will have an opportunity to take command of the backfield. He has rookie Royce Freeman breathing down his neck. A good week 1 will put the rookie in his place.
Corey Clement 3,600 vs ATL (94th Priced RB)
Clement is $600 from the minimum salary. With Jay Ajayi possibly out or limited in week 1 due to a lower body injury, Clement should get ample work out of the backfield. He had a solid preseason and he does everything you want for DK: he runs hard, catches passes, and can punch it in from short.
WR:
Marquise Goodwin 4,600 @ MIN (49th Priced WR)
I trust Kyle Shanahan to get Goodwin matched up against an LB multiple times against Minnesota. And Jimmy G and the 49ers will have to pass a lot if they are going to lose badly to a much better Vikings squad. No Jerick McKinnon means a few more targets for Goodwin as well.
Chris Godwin 4,100 @ NO (63rd Priced WR)
Godwin had one of his best game as a pro last year with Fitzpatrick throwing him the ball. Godwin caught 5 of 10 targets for 68 yards. That performance was in week 10. Godwin recorded 10 or more fantasy points in 3 of his last 4 games of the 2017-18 season. He is trending up.
Tyler Boyd 3,100 @ IND (118th Priced WR)
Boyd is the near-minimum WR that I will be heavily rostering this for week 1. Boyd is number 2 on the depth chart, with only AJ Green and John Ross to possibly limit his WR targets. I expect a productive year 3 for Boyd, and it starts week 1.
TE:
Austin Seferian-Jenkins 3,200 @ NYG (19th Priced TE)
Its always a tough call starting a guy week one who is playing on a new team. However, this is too juicy of a matchup: the Giants were one of the worst teams against TEs last year, and Blake Bortles loves check down passes. Bortles is also akin to throwing the ball high, so the 6’6″ ASJ is the ideal target this week.
