New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone was very animated on Saturday, and that earned him a one-game suspension.

For what it’s worth, New York Yankees fans can no longer say that manager Aaron Boone is too laid back.

Despite his reputation as being an easy-going player’s coach, Boone showed some serious fire and passion during Saturday’s game against the Detroit Tigers at Yankee Stadium. That passion resulted in him getting ejected from the game, as well as getting slapped with a one-game suspension, which he will serve during Sunday’s matinee game against the Tigers.

The incident happened in the fifth inning on Saturday; Boone was initially ejected for arguing balls and strikes from the dugout, which as everybody knows, has always been a big no-no in Major League Baseball.

After the home plate umpire gave the ejection signal, Boone came charging out of the dugout to get in his face — and he didn’t hold back. Profanities were flying left and right, and Boone repeatedly pointed his finger just inches away from the umpire’s face.

He was making sure not to make contact with the umpire, which is also a huge no-no. But while Boone was in the umpire’s face, the bill of his cap accidentally grazed the umpire’s cap, which is supposedly the cause for the one-game suspension. The umpire immediately pointed at his cap and said, “That’s contact!”

Boone wasn’t finished though. He then squatted down behind home plate like a catcher and basically tried to paint a picture of the strike zone for the umpire. While the entire incident was happening, the fans at Yankee Stadium roared with approval. They loved every second of it.

In his first year as Yankees manager, Boone has garnered a reputation for being too nice of a guy; a manager who doesn’t know how to discipline his players when they need it, and who never really shows any true passion for the winning tradition of the New York Yankees.

That wasn’t the case on Saturday though. Boone was absolutely fired up, and the passion he has for the game and the organization was on full display.

Yankees fans won’t forget that any time soon.
