Reggie Bush believes Patriots’ Sony Michel could be Offensive ROY
By Cody Rivera
Former NFL running back Reggie Bush is expecting an outstanding rookie season from Sony Michel.
Rookie running back Sony Michel generated a ton of hype in the Boston area when he was drafted by the New England Patriots 31st overall in the 2018 NFL Draft.
After an exceptional career at the University of Georgia, it was pretty easy to see why — especially after he was named Offensive MVP when Georgia defeated Oklahoma in the Rose Bowl.
Michel clearly has pretty high potential if Patriots head coach Bill Belichick was willing to spend a first-round draft pick on him, which is something that he rarely ever does with running backs.
Former NFL running back Reggie Bush can see the potential too, as he wouldn’t be surprised if Michel ends up winning Offensive Rookie of the Year.
"“He could be Rookie of the Year, just because of the many different ways they’re going to use him,” Bush said, via Henry McKenna. “They can use him in the pass game. They can use him in the run game. Get him out in space. They can create so many different mismatches for him that I think he’s going to love it. He couldn’t have gone to a better situation.”"
For right now at least, we’ll have to take Bush’s word for it, because Michel was kept out of the entire preseason due to a knee injury.
It’s hard to tell at this point if Michel will be 100 percent for Sunday’s season opener against the Houston Texans, but whenever he is ready to go, New England fans expect him to literally hit the ground running.
If his accomplishments at Georgia are any indication, though, Michel is in for a standout rookie season.
One of the reasons he won Offensive MVP in the Rose Bowl was for his game-winning 27-yard scamper in overtime to help Georgia beat Oklahoma, which brought his final stat line to 181 yards on the ground with three touchdowns.
Patriots fans are ready for Michel to bring those kinds of performances to Foxborough.
