The Miami Hurricanes hope to bounce back from a disappointing season-opening loss as they face the Savannah State Tigers on Saturday.

Miami Hurricanes quarterback Malik Rosier has been one of the most talked about players in the country following week 1 of the college football season — only it’s been for all the wrong reasons. Many have put the season-opening and demoralizing loss to LSU on the shoulders of the signal-caller given his abysmal performance in the primetime matchup last Sunday.

In truth, it’s hard not to put some of the blame on Rosier. His box score stats look bad enough as he went 15-for-35 on the night and also threw two interceptions. The film might be worse, however. Rosier looked completely lost and out of sorts more often than not. Now Miami is 0-1 and needs to rebound in a big way as they welcome Savannah State to Hard Rock Stadium.

Savannah State is one of the few teams in college football whose quarterbacks played worse than Rosier last week. In a 52-0 loss to UAB, the two Tigers quarterbacks combined to go 1-of-17 for 23 yards with two interceptions. That’s about as forgettable of a day at the office as is imaginable.

There’s no doubt that Miami will look to bring the same fate to their opponents this week. They need to get their season on the right track and a big win could help. Of course, they’re sticking with Rosier at quarterback and, if he’s not better, confidence and other things don’t wholly matter.

It’s hard to expect anything other than Miami bouncing back against a team like Savannah State. An upset just simply doesn’t seem to be in the cards given the discrepancy between the two teams. Having said that, seeing where the Hurricanes’ confidence level is right now will be highly intriguing.
