Brickyard 400 postponed, NASCAR doubleheader on Monday in Indy
By Nick Tylwalk
The rain just wouldn’t let up at the Brickyard, forcing both NASCAR races to be moved to Monday.
NASCAR races are affected by rain every year, but very rarely does the weather mess up an entire weekend of racing. Unfortunately, that’s exactly what’s happened at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, where the Brickyard 400 was to make its debut as the final regular season NASCAR Cup Series race.
Precipitation prevented any on-track activities Friday and Saturday, necessitating the postponement of the NASCAR XFINITY Series race to Monday. The hope was that the rain would let up for Sunday and the Big Machine Vodka 400 at the Brickyard would run.
It did not, and shortly after 2:30 p.m. ET, NASCAR made the call to move the Cup Series race as well. That means a doubleheader at Indy on Monday, with both races taking place.
Here’s the new schedule:
- 10:00 a.m. – NASCAR XFINITY Series Lilly Diabetes 250
- 2:00 p.m. – Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Big Machine Vodka 400 at the Brickyard
The fields for both races are set by the points standings in each series since qualifying was rained out. That puts Kyle Busch and Kevin Harvick beside each other in Row 1 for the Cup Series race, which stands to make their race for the regular season title — which carries with it some bonus playoff points — that much more intriguing.
Even with the change, we’ll have full coverage of the Brickyard 400 here at FanSided.com, including highlights of the race and a rundown of who’s in and who’s out for the NASCAR Playoffs once the race is finally run.
