James Conner stood out in his first regular season game as Le’Veon Bell’s replacement, and for his follow-up performance against the Kansas City Chiefs, he has a special tribute planned for Mac Miller.

Last week, Pittsburgh-native rapper Mac Miller tragically passed away at the age of 26. His loss was felt by many hip-hop fans, especially those who grew up with his music and could relate to the messages in his songs. Miller’s life affected many people, and several of us are just starting to realize how much positivity he left on this world.

James Conner is currently the Pittsburgh Steelers starting running back with Le’Veon Bell holding out on the franchise tag. Conner was a standout at the University of Pittsburgh after growing up in northwestern Pennsylvania.

Miller also touched Conner’s life, as the Steelers rising star will be wearing cleats as a tribute to a fellow hometown hero.

Those cleats are absolutely tremendous. I love the blue print, the “Thank you Mac”, and the images of Miller on both sides of the cleats. This is a touching way for Conner to give a nod to Miller’s life an impact as a pop culture icon, especially to people from the city of Pittsburgh.

As for Conner, he was the Steelers star player in a Week 1 tie against the Cleveland Browns, rushing for 135 yards on 31 carries and two touchdowns. He also caught five passes on six targets for 57 yards, and if he can keep that up, the Steelers might not care about Bell’s situation at all.

Bell’s ability to play on all three downs makes him such a big asset, but considering how well Conner has played in the passing game in the preseason and Week 1, that might be a wash to the Steelers.

Conner and the Steelers will face the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 2 in a match between AFC powerhouses, and this is a great spot for the Steelers to get back on track after a disappointing Week 1. Patrick Mahomes and Co. were mighty impressive in their first game, but if Conner can get going again and the Steelers receive a better performance from Ben Roethlisberger, Pittsburgh could pick up the “W”.
