The main event of the Hell in a Cell PPV had no winner, but there was a very good reason for that.

Unless you’re the type of fan who prefers to avoid spoilers at all costs, it’s worth paying attention to reports of who might be backstage for WWE pay-per-views. On Sunday for Hell in a Cell, the rumor was that Brock Lesnar had been seen in San Antonio.

That one turned out to be right on the money.

Lesnar, widely thought to be headed to UFC for one final run in MMA after challenging heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier, made his presence felt in the Hell in a Cell match between Roman Reigns and Braun Strowman for Reigns’ WWE Universal Championship. After tearing the door of the Cell clear off its hinges, Lesnar invaded the structure and laid waste to both combatants, forcing a referee to call for a no contest after Paul Heyman dosed special referee Mick Foley with a generous helping of pepper spray.

It was a scene of pure pandemonium that would probably make Foley proud, considering how synonymous he became with this particular match. Lesnar was far from the only rogue element, either, considering that the running mates for both Reigns (Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose) and Strowman (Dolph Ziggler and Drew McIntyre) all showed up as well. The wild scene included battles fought on top of the cage and a wicked bump taken by both Rollins and Ziggler as they came crashing down from one of its sides through one of the ringside announce tables.

Still, it was Lesnar, sporting some new facial hair, who seemed to most excite the fans who seemed a bit tired of him just a few weeks prior.

It remains to be seen how he factors into WWE programming going forward, but if his appearance on Sunday night was any indication, he’s definitely not walking out on pro wrestling altogether right now.
