Here’s how MMA community reacted to the pay-per-view boxing event between Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin.

If there’s one thing that can bring the MMA world together, it’s a much-anticipated boxing showdown with two of the sport’s best.

On Saturday, Sept. 15, middleweight boxers Canelo Alvarez and Gennady ‘GGG’ Golovkin stepped inside the ring to fight each other again almost one year after their first meeting in Las Vegas. Starting out as a respectable competition between two of the elite middleweights in the world, Alvarez and Golovkin’s relationship gradually soured on the road to fight two.

With their first meeting ruled a draw, a rematch was instantly set up, but Alvarez would stop those fight plans dead in its track when he tested positive for a banned substance. He’d be suspended for six months.

Golovkin fought Vanes Matirosyan as Alvarez’s replacement in May and after stopping him in the second round, ‘GGG’ set his sights on Alvarez once more. Alvarez’s suspension would be lifted in August and two pugilists were face to face yet again but this time, there was a lot more animosity. Luckily for Alvarez and Golovkin, they’d be able to somewhat settle their differences.

From the moment the bell rang to signify the start of the rematch, the story seemed to be different from their first fight. Alvarez was pressing forward and landing much of the harder strikes, while Golovkin looked to tire out a bit but was still touching up Alvarez every chance he got. As the fight went into the later rounds, the tides turned in favor of Golovkin as he really started piecing his punches together and hitting Alvarez at will, seemingly edging out a decision victory.

Overall, the fight was a close one that some even saw as a draw (again), but there was an actual decision this time around. After 12 rounds, Alvarez would be announced the winner of the bout via majority decision, winning the WBC middleweight title.

Because of how close the fight was, the decision has already been put into question. Who knows plenty about questionable decisions? Mixed martial artists. Having said that, here are some of the best reactions from MMA Twitter:
