Liverpool beat PSG 3-2 in the Champions League on Tuesday, Sept. 18. Here are all the highlights from the match.

Liverpool started the game predictably well, buoyed by the Anfield crowd and forcing PSG onto the back foot, but the danger posed by Neymar, Kylian Mbappe and Edinson Cavani on the break was obvious.

Neymar, in particular, looked dangerous on the ball, beating the first man with ease before help arrived. And as the half progressed, PSG seemed to settle into their possession as they got comfortable with the pace of play.

But it was the home side who broke the deadlock after 30 minutes. Daniel Sturridge, into the starting XI for Roberto Firmino, recovering from an eye injury sustained on the weekend, headed in Andy Robertson’s excellent cross.

As so often seems to be the case for this Reds side, the goal breathed new life into their press, and they doubled their lead a little over five minutes later, James Milner scoring from the spot after Georginio Wijnaldum was fouled in the box.

With Jurgen Klopp’s side threatening to run up the score, Thomas Meunier pulled one back, volleying in at the back post after Robertson failed to deal with a cross. Cavani appeared to be offside on the play, but the goal stood.

Given they got a goal back shortly before halftime, PSG came out of the break strangely flat, allowing Liverpool to pass the ball around the back under little pressure, and rarely threatening on the break.

Around the hour mark, the Reds thought they had their third when Mohamed Salah tapped in after the ball spilled loose following a challenge between Sturridge and Alphonse Areola, but was eventually called back for a foul on Sturridge.

They couldn’t make their dominance count, however, and PSG levelled the score in the 83rd minute. Salah gave the ball away cheaply to Julian Draxler, who moved it onto Neymar. Virgil van Dijk tackled the Brazilian, but the ball popped to Mbappe, who finished easily.

As the game entered stoppage time, it seemed Liverpool would have to settle for a disappointing draw, only for Firmino, on as a late substitute, to beat his man in the box and fire into the bottom corner.
