2. BYU Cougars (Independent) 2-1
BYU had the biggest win of the year for a Group of 5 team Saturday, upsetting No. 6 Wisconsin on their home turf to move into the top three in the rankings.
The two went back-and-forth in the game that featured three ties and four lead changes. Wisconsin kicker Rafael Gaglianone missed a 42-yard field goal attempt with 41 seconds left to seal the BYU victory.
It was the Badgers first home loss to a non-conference opponent in 15 years.
Squally Canada had 118 rushing yards and a pair of touchdown runs for the Cougars, who also used a trick play to pull the upset.
With 12:17 to go in the second quarter, quarterback Tanner Mangum threw a backward pass to wide receiver Aleva Hifo, who then threw 31 yards to wide open tight end Moroni Laulu-Pututau for BYU’s second score of the day.
Up next: Saturday vs. McNeese State.
1. UCF Knights (AAC) 2-0
The Knights had a good test on the schedule for Week 3, as they were set to travel to North Carolina and take on the Tar Heels. With Hurricane Florence expected to wreak havoc on the state, however, the game was canceled. It is not expected to be made up.
Up next: Friday vs. Florida Atlantic
