Fantasy Football: NFL FantasyDraft Week 3 Optimal Lineup
By Matt Vecchio
Welcome to NFL FantasyDraft Week 3 optimal lineup! I am changing up my FantasyDraft article a little and streamlining it to give you an optimal lineup to use in cash games.
Instead of just giving you a bunch of players I decided I would help you build a lineup you can use in the main slate each week. I will add a few other options at the end of each section you can use to swap players but I will highlight the players for the NFL FantasyDraft optimal lineup with some details on them and their opponent each week. Thanks for reading and I hope this helps you cash each Sunday
Let’s start with two players/positions I think we need to lock in as the first players in to all our line-ups in Week 3.
Quarterback:
Drew Brees ($11,500) – Drew Brees is the pick this week at QB for FantasyDraft. There are two simple reasons for me picking Brees, first, he dropped a massive $2,200 in salary but sits at a 2x value play (rotowire.com) for week 3 against Atlanta. Second reason I want to use Brees is seeing what Cam Newton did to this Falcons defense last week. Newton put up 31.5 fantasy points on FantasyDraft last week.
Other options : Patrick Mahomes ($13,600 v SF), Matthew Stafford ($12,100 v NE)
Defense/Special Teams
Minnesota Vikings ($7,800) – Minnesota is one of the league’s top defensive units. They rank 7th in the league in DVOA ( – 16.7 %). Minnesota is also 7th in the league in sacks this season with 3.5 and tied for 6th with 2 turnovers. Buffalo has allowed 5.5 sacks in 2 games which is second worst in the league and thrown 2 interceptions.

Running Backs:
Alvin Kamara ($17,600) – We are going back to New Orleans for our first pick at RB this week. Kamara had a down week with only 12.9 points, and he got a $400 discount because of this. Atlanta gave up 14 receptions to McCaffery for 102 yards last week and I have a feeling that Kamara will have a huge game this weekend against the Falcons
Todd Gurley ($17,500) – Gurley is the model of consistency early in the season. He is averaging 29.5 points per game through two games this season. In week one Gurley rushed for over 100 yards on 20 attempts but only found the end zone once. In week 2 Gurley only rushed for 42 yards on 19 carries, but found the end zone 3 times. Either way Gurley will get his points, and I want to be in on that.
Kareem Hunt ($11,300) – With Hunt we get another discount, albeit only the same $400 that Kamara got, but it is still a discount . Hunt has played 40 offensive snaps in each of the teams two games this season. We know Kareem will get his snaps it’s just matters what he does with them. Hunt and the Chiefs are big favorite this week and also have a 56.5 O/U, so we will definitely want to have some part of the offense in this game.
Kenyan Drake ($11,100) – Drake is not a sexy pick like the players above but he might have as big of a week as any of them. This week the Dolphins host Oakland, who is ranked 31st in the league in rushing yards against with 308 yards allowed. As long as Drake gets his touches, which I can’t see why he won’t, he should have a field day against this porous Raiders run defense.
Other options: Saquon Barkley ($15,600 v Hou), Giovanni Bernard ($10,400 v Car), James White ($8,000 v Det)

Wide Receivers:
Jamison Crowder ($8,800) – Since we are paying up at running back I am going to try to get some value at the wide receiver spot this week. Crowder played 69 snaps last week against the Colts, a huge uptick from his 49 in week 1. Now, he only saw 4 targets, but I am banking on him seeing a similar snap count this week against a Packers defense that ranks in the bottom of the league in all defensive pass categories.

Kenny Golladay ($8,000) – Golladay has been a target machine this season for Stafford. He has 21 targets in just two games for 13 receptions. Golladay gets to run routes against a New England team that allowed Blake Bortles to torch them. I am hoping that Stafford and Golladay connect like they have been the previous 2 weeks and give us a huge ending to week 3 Sunday Night.
Other options : Julio Jones ($16,200 v No) Keelan Cole ($11,300 v Ten) Brandon Marshall ($8,400 v Dal)
Tight End:
Will Dissly ($6,400) – Will Dissly been a pleasant surprise so far in a dismal start to the Seahawks season. He was drafted for his blocking ability but has become Seattle’s most consistent pass catching option this season. Dissly has played in 65% of the Seahawks offensive snaps (played in 14 more in week 2 then week 1). Dissly is going to give us a cheap option at tight with high upside that will help us pay up for RB this week.
