Bills and Josh Allen are stunning the Vikings

The Buffalo Bills presumably had no chance to beat the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, but to this point that’s why the play the games.

No matter what odds site you use (for entertainment purposes only, of course), the Buffalo Bills were the biggest underdog on the NFL’s Week 3 slate by a good margin. The line was 16.5 or 17 points pretty much everywhere, and the Vikings seemed to play it cautious with a couple key players’ injuries as they face a short week in Week 4.

But that’s why they play the games. The Bills have gone into U.S. Bank Stadium, pulled out to a 24-0 lead at the end of the first quarter as the Vikings have not gotten anything going offensively and have made a lot of mistakes.

Bills rookie quarterback Josh Allen, making his second career start, has surprising not been flustered by Minnesota’s defense. He is 10-for-16 for 139 yards and a touchdown as of this writing, with another 29 rushing yards and two more scores on the ground.

Allen has been fearless, and a run with around two minutes to go in the opening quarter showed it better than anything so far in Sunday’s game.

Allen hurdled Vikings linebacker Anthony Barr on a run for a first down, and took a solid hit as he completed the run. Bills’ coaches surely told him to cool it with the hurdle routine, as he left himself vulnerable to a bigger hit in a lot of circumstances. That run was followed quickly by a 55-yard catch and run by running back Chris Ivory, which set up a one-yard plunge from Allen for his second rushing score of the game.

The Vikings came back from a fourth quarter deficit last week against the Green Bay Packers, so all is not lost. But they need to figure things out soon, or they’ll suffer a stunning loss to one of the worst teams in the NFL.
