Ranking the Philadelphia Flyers third jerseys from worst to best
By Kyle McKenna
The Philadelphia Flyers unveiled their sixth alternate jersey in team history, but find out the rankings for the Flyers third jerseys from worst to best.
Nothing can compare to an NHL sweater, especially when there’s plenty of hype and anticipation for teams to introduce alternate jerseys.
While more than half the league is set to don alternate sweaters in 2018-19, the Philadelphia Flyers arguably have the best third jerseys for the upcoming campaign after the Flyers unveiled the sweater in late June.
It’s technically the sixth alternate jersey that the City of Brotherly Love has unveiled since joining the NHL back in 1967.
With that being said, Fansided ranks all six of the Philadelphia Flyers’ alternate jerseys from worst to best.
6. 50th Anniversary Third Jersey
In 2016-17, the Philadelphia Flyers introduced the 50th anniversary third jersey and it marked the first time that Philadelphia took to the ice with an (official) white alternate.
While the jersey’s overall appearance isn’t terrible by any means, it just didn’t have the same Flyers’ swagger that the other alternates portrayed over the years. Yes, the team aimed to incorporate a handful of characteristics from the team’s overall jersey history, but it still had more of a marketing and style-jersey feel to it (unofficial licensed jerseys).
For starters, incorporating gold was a mistake, especially when Philadelphia’s biggest rival in the Pittsburgh Penguins wore a similar Vegas gold for over a decade prior to this jersey unveiling. Also, the shoulder yokes don’t speak “Flyers Hockey,” but rather remind fans of other teams such as the New Jersey Devils or New York Rangers that entailed similar should yokes on their respective white jerseys.
The all-black collar, similar to the team’s jerseys from 1982-2001, was a good call. Then the striping on the arms and base of the jerseys were also commendable. Another positive aspect was the fact that the Flyers could wear the jerseys (with permission) on the road and at home ice in South Philly.
Still, this goes down as the most forgettable Flyers alternate jersey.
