Manchester City are the reigning Premier League champions, and they’re at home this week against Brighton. The Citizens aren’t on pace for the same gaudy point total as last season, but they remain one of the most feared teams in the entire Premier League. They currently sit in second place in the league, with five wins and one draw through their first six games. They’ve been incredibly prolific in front of goal, and have the highest goal differential in the league, scoring 16 more goals than their opponents so far this season.
Sergio Aguero has been the man of the hour for City, and the Argentine striker leads the team with four goals. He recently entered the top 10 in Premier League scoring history, and seems to be getting better as his career goes on. Stopping him, especially at home, will be a tall order for Brighton.
The visitors come in to Saturday’s game following a hard fought home loss to Spurs last week. Despite not being the most talented team on paper, Brighton have been a lot to handle in the league this season, most notably in their win against Manchester United. The Seagulls currently sit in 13th place, a number that could easily be much higher if a few things went their way. Their three losses this season have come by a combined four goals, which highlights just how close their games have been.
City will be favored in this game, especially since they’re at home. But they shouldn’t overlook Brighton. The Seagulls have given each of their opponents all they could handle this season, including the otherwise dominant Liverpool. Saturday’s game may be closer than you think.
